Venture Capital Firm Global Brain Invests in High-Performance Scale-out Interconnect Provider Cornelis Networks, Inc.

February 27, 2021

Tokyo, February 08, 2021 – Global Brain, a venture capital firm based in Tokyo, has invested in Cornelis Networks, a recently established Intel Corporation spin-out providing high-performance, scale-out interconnect solutions for the artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance data analytics (HPDA), and high-performance computing (HPC) markets. The early-stage venture capital firm made the investment through its GB-VII Growth Fund Investment Limited Partnership (GB-VII).

The ability to effectively focus a significant amount of computational power on solving critical problems using artificial intelligence, data analytics, and modeling/simulation techniques is vital to many scientific, commercial, and government organizations, and is driving an insatiable demand for ever more capable computing environments. The increasing adoption of AI techniques for computation scaling is leading to a convergence in the designs of AI, HPDA, and HPC infrastructures. The company’s current end-to-end solution, installed in some of the world’s largest high-performance clusters, coupled with its impressive roadmap of future products, uniquely positions Cornelis Networks to take advantage of this convergence to become a leader in providing scale-out interconnects to this large, growing market.

“Global Brain sees a huge potential for Cornelis Network, as the company has already established a very competitive market position by offering compelling products compatible with popular processors with deployments all over the world,” said the investment team at Global Brain. “The Asian market has a lot of enterprises and research institutes and we are excited to partner with Cornelis Networks to provide hands-on support for business development in Japan and other Asian countries.”

“Our high-performance fabric products offer our customers a significant competitive advantage due to our industry-leading performance and compelling price-performance,” explains Phil Murphy, CEO, Cornelis Networks, Inc. “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to work closely with Global Brain.”
